How do I know if I need coaching?

If you live outside the United States or Canada right now or you'd like to move abroad and maintain or establish an income once you're out of your home country, unless you've done it before, successfully, coaching might be helpful.

There are many hidden pitfalls to starting a business.  Add to that the complexity of working in a foreign country and there is a lot of stuff you don't even know you don't know.

Especially if you're a baby boomer whose computer skills aren't great coaching is important.

The requirement to build a transportable income necessitates the use of the Internet and unless your skills are great in that area you could spend hours looking for tools to help you do that.

Services that make it possible to save your time and communication systems that let you project your presence anywhere in the world your clients can be employed to make your work much easier. Unless you are very familiar with these products and services you will waste a lot of time getting started.

When should I start coaching?... I'm not moving for a year.

If you're still living in your home country, it's good to get started before you go. There's a number of accounts you'll need to set up and some of those can be problematic once your outside your country's borders.  Credit card are rejected more frequently on the basis of location and many systems can't handle a foreign mail address very well.

Also depending upon your level computer proficiency, you want to get comfortable working some of the sites that I share with you during our coaching sessions.

People that seem to do very well with the coaching program start six months to a year before they move.

What if I already live outside my home country?

Well the good news is you probably already reduce your expenses pretty dramatically so your already enjoying a lot of the relief from a costly US or Canadian lifestyle… which is good!

You can begin about almost any time, however I would recommend not trying to start your Barefoot Consultants adventure until 2-3 months after you have moved to your country of choice… there are just too many other things you are getting used to.

Do you service a particular geographic area?

No, I have clients worldwide and the whole nature of Barefoot Consultants is to be able to earn money from anywhere in the world that you have an Internet connection.

That's the whole point, once you successfully made the transition to global earning you can work without regard to geographic area.

If you haven't moved outside the United States or Canada yet you can enjoy "working vacations" for months at a time anywhere in the world.  Trust me, that is a much better way to vacation that the 2 week dash to the beach!

I've worked with a number of Canadians who are “over” Canadian winter and they come to the town where I live, Huatulco, Mexico. They stay sometimes for five and six months, making sure they returned to Canada to ensure they don't lose health benefits. That's their way to enjoy the winter at about 75°, work at a relaxed pace, and not feel disconnected from their business activities.

What kinds of topics do you discuss with your clients?

The topics are wide ranging and we work on your agenda, not mine.

Having said that I've developed some tools that help my coaching clients analyze which of our five pathways to earning they are best suited to given their background and activity level  required.

Usually it's best to assess a person's background, their skills and proficiency in a number of different areas, and their personal preferences including those things that bring them great joy. With that I like to help the client arrive at a conclusion as to what is the best area for them to work, what is the proper balance of work and play and what makes a sense financially for the long-term.

What do I do between coaching sessions?

Between coaching sessions usually you have some homework.

It's your job to do the best you can to do a little reading, a little bit of activity online and a little bit of thinking about your process to bring you closer to your goal.

If you have a bad week and don't get a lot done that's okay. It's about sustained effort, that always wins the race.

There are no grades and I don't berate you if you don't get anything done. Usually that means there is some kind of obstacle that we need to work through and you don't find those until you start making forward progress.

What is Barefoot and Consultants general philosophy?

1.       It is good to tap into the global market rather than leaving your financial future to the whims of the market of the country you're in.

2.       For the most part baby boomers have a lot of skills and a lot of knowledge to offer the world but sadly most of them are not extremely proficient with computer.  Those that are proficient are not really comfortable with an understanding of how to “package”  their knowledge experience and skill on the global market.

This is a relatively simple thing to do. But simple doesn't necessarily mean easy. Just like any simple journey through the woods, the journey is immensely easier if you have a good map, somebody who is travel that way before and can give you insight. That's what barefoot consultants is all about.

3.       Working globally is an ever-changing landscape, and until you have firmly established your business you will want to keep up with the changes and trends as they emerge. A new global enterprise is not unlike a new infant. It needs some nurturing and help especially with the ever-changing landscape of the Internet.

What is your personal coach style?

I'm a listener first and foremost.

I want you to find a way to earn globally, enjoy it, and reap the benefit of the lower stress of a living abroad lifestyle that is financially well handled by your earning.

I want to help you find the shortest path to earning globally while doing something you love.

What are your hours?

My coaching calls are usually scheduled for Fridays. I work primarily from the central time zone and my calls are typically between 9 AM and 5 PM.

I fully realize that issues sometimes arise for you that might require a response outside those hours. When you sign up for my coaching packages, I give you my cell phone number and my private e-mail address so that you can reach me in off-hours for quick problem-solving session.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Normally we set a time on Friday and that is your time as long this we are coaching.

I use a service (I'll tell you more about and send all the instructions when you purchase your coaching)... it allows me to send you a link and you can view my Friday schedule and find a time that works for you.

What if I miss a scheduled call?

If you need to change your scheduled appointment,  you can do so and simply move your appointment to another time on Fridays. If it's necessary to miss an appointment, emergencies do come up, I have a 24-hour cancellation policy.

Cancel 24 hours before our call and you can simply move your session to the next week or whenever works out for you.

If you cancel less than 24-hours I'm certainly sympathetic to a personal or family emergency and would understand and not charge you for the session. However if you just forgot, or the dog ate your homework, that's not a valid excuse, and the coaching session would be deducted from your total.

What does it cost to hire a coach?

(This is for most coaching situations worldwide.)

Many coaching clients discover of course that they begin to earn money instead of spend it... So for most people coaching is a net gain for their investment.

To begin the client might expect to invest between $150 to $500 a month depending upon their starting point and the complexity of their need.

Corporate coaching can run between thousand and $10,000 a month… I know, that's what I paid when I sought coaching help. I credit the coaching with helping me to make hundreds of thousands of dollars my career. For me it was a way to outthink and out perform my competition.

As I moved up the ladder to the vice-president rank, I hired people I thought would be good coaches. I look for some of the same qualities you are probably looking for… first… approachable, no prima donnas, second… smart, third not afraid to give me honest feedback, fourth… willing to work together (collaborate) on a team, and fifth… we you'll have to wait until we start working together to hear that one… it is a game changer and I only share that with clients.

What is coaching worth?

The global earner looks at coaching not as a cost but as an investment. And because I work mostly with baby boomers all give a baby boomer example.

Let's say that you want to earn a modest $3,000 a month to cover all your living expenses in Mexico or Ecuador or Panama or Costa Rica or any other one of the great places to live in Latin America and South America.

If you're in your 50s or 60s there's a real good chance that you'll probably be on the planet for another 20 to 25 years. My father recently passed a few days shy of his 86th birthday and my mom passed shortly after her 83rd birthday and because I was involved in their lives I saw that both of them were extremely vigorous and alert up until several months before their passing. My father discovered a new hobby…betting on Jai-Alai in his 80s. He used to go to the Jai-Alai  in Fort Lauderdale with a buddy from his assisted-living center.  My dad has given up driving a few years earlier but he had a buddy at the assisted living who had a car and 20/20 vision… and was 90!

So if you want to earn a modest $3,000 a month  20 years that multiplies out to $720,000. That can cover a lot of expenses a lot of medical insurance, a lot of massages, a lot of trips around the planet or locally and generally enable you to live life at a standard above might what might otherwise be.

I call this the personal Social Security Reform…

Listen, the economy is crazy, nobody and I mean nobody knows what is coming next.

Hopefully we will get Social Security but most of us baby boomers don't know what future currency devaluations, inflation, or economic uncertainty may to do to the amount that we actually receive. If you get $1,800 per month and bread is $15 a loaf, you see the problem.

If you're earning in the global economy you're not dependent on any single country or performance of a single currency.

If your making money at the post devaluation rates (or after inflation) by selling your knowldge, skill and expertise, you are earning in the economy that is coming next meaning that your earning will probably keep pace.

What happens when you hire a coach?

You begin your forward momentum with much greater intensity than ever before.

You start taking action immediately with the confidence that you know what the next steps are.

You immediately stop putting effort into things that don't produce much results.

You start setting goals and identifying achievable, intermediate tasks so you aren't overwhelmed. Better to be focused and moving forward than being locked in the energy draining conversation of "should I do this, or should I do that?"

Why is coaching becoming more popular?

Coaches that have been there,  especially coaches that have been there recently understand many of the details of making the changes you want to make. They have connections, tools, ideas and practical resources that will help you move more quickly than you thought possible.

What about people who are already doing great in their lives. Why would they want a coach?

I have found, initially much to my surprise, that many of the most successful people, those that have it all together, frequently avail themselves of coaching in one form or another.

Yes I know that might sound odd but part of the reason they do have it all together is they have help understanding what to do in the here and now, and they get a perspective from one or two experts about what to do in the immediate and long-term future.

This can be terrifically helpful in sustaining your momentum and uncovering new but related opportunity over time.

The coaching that I've used in my life has been intense for some periods and then not so much for others. Sometimes it looks like 2 coaching calls a day when I'm planning a large, new project or once a month if I'm clicking along and just want a sounding board or some good perspective on what might be coming down the road.

How long is the usual initial commitment when working with a coach?

I have found that many people can make a lot of progress in a month or two with weekly coaching.

When you look at the stakes outlined in my previous example and compare that to the cost of coaching, the coaching to get started is less than 1% even if you buy a years worth!

Now I'm not guaranteeing you can make $720,000 if you buy a year of coaching because everyone's different, but I would say that $3,000 a month is a relatively modest objective and to invest something on the order of $7,000 for a year's worth of coaching is certainly reasonable if you could even achieve a fraction of those earnings.

I found the biggest reason that people that attempt to earn globally fail, is they don't really stick with what's working for them.

Shiny Objects Syndrome

They are distracted by what is been referred to as "the shiny objects problem". They're investigating every new earning technique that comes along, every new variation of tricks to spoof the search engines and increase their ranking and a liberal dose of black magic guaranteed to give them six figures in 60 days.

I've seen that while just doing the meat and potatoes work of putting 1 foot in front of the other sustained over time will, much more quickly produce the desired result than chasing shiny objects.

You don't need to know every strategy! You just need to know one or two that work FOR YOU to get your business started and once you are earning you can branch out from there. It is far harder to start a business and get it to the point of sustainability than it is to grow a business once you've reached the level of self-sufficiency.

Taking all that into consideration usually a 3 to 6 month commitment is best. The good news is with the Barefoot Consultants coaching program you can start with as little as four sessions, see how it goes, and work out from there if you're getting the results you want.

Do you offer guarantees?

Not on coaching.

Most all the products we sell offer a 60 day money back guarantee because I'm not happy unless you're happy… And I enjoy working with people that are committed to our process. People that aren't, not so much… At age 59 I'm too old to be a babysitter.

If you want to apply yourself, I think you'll get great value and you can stop at any time.

If you're not serious, I'm not the coach for you.

How do I get started?

We offer several different coaching packages and you can review them here and make your investment decision according to your need and your pocketbook.

I look forward to working with you!
