If you were asked to look something up on the web right now, where would you go?

Google.com is the way that most people these days start when they look for something on the web. In fact, it is the #1 visited website on the web, so it makes sense that you'd want to make sure Google is finding and displaying your site.

There are several ways to get indexed quickly on Google and similar search engines. All of them involve getting links to your website on other websites that have a higher PageRank.

Sites that are updated often and get reviewed frequently by search engines are another good place to get your links posted..

There are a few simple ways to get people linking to your website without paying a penny. One of the fastest ways to get indexed is to "ping" your site.

Even if you don't have a Blog to ping your site to, you can do it from places like pingoat.com. By taking this approach, you could get indexed in 24 to 48 hours.

Next, you should submit your link to various social bookmarking sites. These sites get reviewed several times daily, therefore they are a great way to get your own site reviewed and indexed quickly. You can set-up an account at the following  bookmarking sites: StumbleUpon, Digg, Furl, del.ico.us, and Slashdot.

Article marketing is another way to get indexed fast. Sending in articles can earn you backlinks, PageRank, and relevant traffic to your site.

There are a lot of general article directories such as and artilcebiz.com and then article directories that pertain to certain interest groups, like Sensible-health.com. Just search "article directories" + "[insert your topic]" to find directories in your niche!

Participating in chat forums about your topic is another great way to get picked up by Google. Forums often get "crawled" daily by search engines, since the content is updated continuously. Sometimes forums have had posts show up within minutes on Google. Make sure to add a link to your site in your signature to get your site indexed quickly.

Finally, you can exchange links with other online marketers in your area of interest.  However, you may be penalized if you amass too many of these site-swapping links to your page, too soon - so don't add more than a few a day!
